Ray Of Light is arguably Madonna’s finest album. Released in 1998, it was a masterclass in electronic pop given an ambient, cinematic richness by producer William Orbit: even chinstroking electronica purists had to admit that the queen of pop was really onto something here. An accompanying remix album, Veronica Electronica, was set to be released a short while after, but Ray Of Light proved so popular, it was shelved – until now.

There are some fine remixes here that tastefully take Ray Of Light songs into club territory: the Sasha Twilo mix of the title track, the Club 69 treatment of Nothing Really Matters and Victor Calderone’s afterhours take on Sky Fits Heaven. Fabien’s mix of The Power Of Good-Bye further enhances the original by giving it a crunchy Blade Runner-like techno edge, and there’s even a previously unreleased demo here, Gone, Gone, Gone, which is far from being a mere throwaway ditty. Veronica Electronica is an essential companion piece.
